Re-Editing Blog: Adding the Finishing Touches

Image
Hey guys! I'm almost there! After making all the changes I've already mentioned in my last blogs, I just had some final editing tweaks to make and the film will be completed! The first thing I had to do was insert a new scene that was filmed for time purposes. Originally the film came up to about 1 minute 40 seconds, and to meet the time requirement I suggested to film another scene that I could edit into the middle of the film.      To do this, I had to figure out the exact place that I wanted to insert the scene, which was between the scene after the note scene and before the shot of Giulia packing a bag. I created a split in the film precisely after the note scene ends. I then inserted the new clip, and rechecked to make sure that I didn't accidentally cut off any of the prior scene in doing so. I then had to find the perfect transition to make the insertion of the new scene seamless. I wanted to choose ...

Re-Shoot Blog: The Final Shots

Image
Hey guys! So, after receiving feedback from friends and family, I had a few changes I wanted to make. However, this required a reshoot of 2 of the scenes. The first scene I reshot was the one where Giulia and I ran out of the house. The feedback I got from others was that the sound of cars passing in that scene was distracting, so this time around I made sure that whenever I started filming there were no cars in sight.       I set up the camera in the same way that I did the last time, on a tripod close to the ground. Then, I would press play and have both me and Giulia go in the house, and then have Giulia run out with me doing the same a few seconds afterwards. The process was pretty similar to what I did for this shot the last time, the only difference was that this time around I paid more attention to any unwanted background noises. I had to film three takes of this shot because the first two times a car passed by in the middle of filming. Not...

Getting a Second Opinion

Image
Hey guys! I have officially finished the first draft of my opening sequence, so I wanted to get some feedback. I asked Giulia to show the film to someone and I did the same, so that I could get well-rounded feedback from two different sources.     I decided to ask my mom to watch my film for me and give feedback. Although she doesn't know much about the techniques of filming and editing, she could provide a fresh set of eyes and tell me if the video would appeal to a general audience. She also loves horror movies so I knew she would enjoy watching the opening sequence!      After watching it, my mom said that she really liked our music choice because she thought that the beginning music created a very normal tone, but that contrasted well with the suspenseful music we switch to later on. However, she said that she thought that we should end the sound of the music before the killer is shown. I really liked this idea, be...

Editing Blog: The Finishing Touches

Image
Hey guys! I just finished editing the final touches for my opening sequence, and I'm here to tell you all about it. First, let me pick up where I last left off. When I last updated you all I was trying to find the perfect music for the film, and I had messaged the artist Rockwell to ask permission to use his song. I unfortunately never got a response, so, I am going to use the song "Keep Moving Along" by MILANO instead.      With all of the music picked out, it was time to edit the sound into the video. The clips were already put together and transitions for all of the senes were finished, so now I had to line up the sound perfectly with the clips. I first screen recorded both songs I was using so that I could have a way to insert it into CapCut, the editing software I am using for this film.     I first inserted the song by MILANO over the video, and I cut the audio down to match the portion of the...

Editing Blog: The Quest for Music

Image
Hey guys! After finishing filming all of the scenes, it was time for me to begin the editing process. The first aspect I focused on was getting the perfect music. For the film, I already had one song picked out that I knew I wanted to use, the song "Somebody's Watching Me" by Rockwell. For the other song I am using for the rest of the film... well I still had to pick that out.      However, I ran into a small problem. I was unable to use the song by Rockwell because it was copyrighted music. To try and find a way around this, I decided to message the artist himself to ask for permission to use his song. The only issue was that when I looked up the artist it said the only social media platform he had was Facebook, and his last post was from 3 years ago! Finding no other way to contact him, I decided to send Rockwell a message through Facebook and see if he responds. I really want to be able to use this song in my film, especially since I ...
