Critical Reflection Questions

1. How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues.       My music video was for the song "Attracted to You" by PinkPantheress, and it falls under the genre of alternative/indie and pop. Therefore, I used many of the conventions commonly found in the music videos for songs of this genre. For example, a common convention of alternative/indie music is that the actors lip sing to the song throughout the video. I used this convention, as I had Giulia, my actor, lip sing to the song in every scene she was in. Another convention I followed is the use of scenic settings like fields and beaches in my shots. I chose to film at my local park, so that I could use the green fields for my last shot and have the scenery in the background. However, I only used a sonic setting for the last shot, which is not as much as many music video of this genre typically have. The last convention of the alternative/indie genre is that the actions of

Hey guys! This moment is the moment we've all been waiting for. The music video is completed! There were quite a few ups and downs when making this video, but I am so happy with the final product. I learned so much throughout the process, like how to do a split screen edit, how to use an SD card, and how to work a Sony camera. I also found out certain things that I could do better for the next video, so that I can make the next one even better! This was overall such a fun and educational experience, and I'm so ready to take what I've learned and apply it to our next project. I'll talk to you guys again soon!

The Editing Process: A Journey

Image
Hey guys, I'm back! So, I ran into a small problem; actually a very big problem. In my last post, I said that I went through and organized all of the scenes we filmed. Well, it all deleted! So, I was back to having unorganized videos that consisted of multiple takes of each scene. I had to go back through again and organize about, in total, an hour's worth of film. I had already done all of this and saved the final shots onto my computer for the editing, but for some reason, they all deleted off of my computer.  I was in Media class and was ready to begin editing the scenes together, but when I went to find the folder where the final shots were located, it was gone. I looked in all the different folders on my computer and even looked in the trash to see if I accidentally deleted it. But, I had no luck. So, I had to do it all again. I spent another hour looking through the footage and reorganizing them. This time, I made copies of the final shots and saved them on both my comput

A Small Bump on the Editing Road

Hey guys! The filming process is officially finished, and now it's on to editing. The first step I had to do was to transfer the videos from the camera onto my computer to edit. Usually, all I would have had to do was to take out the SD card from the camera and plug it into my laptop. However, I realized there was one small problem, the SD card in the camera didn't fit into the ports on my laptop.       I've never encountered this challenge before, so I had no idea what to do. To find my answers, I turned Google and began researching. I researched my problem and found that what I needed was an SD reader. I really didn't want to have to buy one, so I first asked a few friends and family members. However, no one I asked owned one, so, I decided that when I got back to school I would ask my media teachers to see if they could lend me one.       Sure enough, come Monday, my teacher had an SD card reader that I could use. I plugged in the SD card on one side of the read

The Filming Finale: The Sequel

Image
Hey guys, I'm  back! Last time I wrote about the first half of our last day of filming. After a few struggles, I got the perfect shot for the car scene and was ready to move onto the next scene. For this last scene, we moved outside to film Giulia walking up to a house. For this scene, Giulia was supposed to be walking while holding a bouquet of flowers.      However, I realized we had o ne small problem, I forgot to buy the flowers. Since I didn't want to have to go to the store, I tried to think of what we could use as a replacement. Luckily, I remembered that I had a vase of fake roses in my room, so I got those and tied them together with a hair tie to make a bouquet.       Back outside, I had Giulia stand in the middle of the walkway to see how she would look in the frame. I focused on trying to keep her centered in the frame, but I realized that the lighting was too bright again. I tried to use the different settings on the camera to make the lighting seem less harsh,

The Filming Finale

Hey guys! Today was the last day of filming and I'm here to tell you all about it. Giulia and I met at my house to film at around 3pm. I had asked my parent's for permission to use their car for filming, since the scene takes place in a car. The first thing I had to do before we started filming was connect my phone to the car in order to play the song and have it show on the dashboard. For some reason, however, I could not get my phone to connect to the car's bluetooth, so I decided to use my mom's phone instead, which worked. Then, I had to use Giulia's Spotify account to play the song, because when I tried to play it on any other app, it didn't show the album cover on the car's dashboard, which I needed for the scene.       Once I got the music set up, I had to figure out the timing for the scene. I had to decide the amount of time Giulia would have to step into the car, put her head on the steering wheel, and turn on the radio and compare that to the
