Our Pitch

a)   Two strangers start a conversation in a cafe but take the wrong bag when leaving. Consequently, they each take the other’s most valuable item.

b)   A woman finds an eerie note and ignores it. She then receives a call that throws her into a game of life or death.

We really like pitch A because we feel like it’s a very interesting story that we can artfully capture through different angles and sound techniques. However, one drawback to this pitch is that we would have to find another male actor that would be willing to take the time to film with us. While it is possible, it makes it harder to schedule a day when we would all be able to meet and there is no guarantee that the other actor will be flexible. Another complication is that we don’t have the ability to film in an empty coffee shop where we can control the setting, lighting, and background noise. Filming in a public location could have many unforeseen problems, like our ability to get certain shots or clearly hear the dialogue between the actors, as our movements would be limited by other customers and other noises of the coffee shop could take away from our film. These limiting factors do have to be thoroughly considered before we chose to film this pitch, but regardless, this pitch is still doable, and we should be able to produce a great opening from it.

We are also really intrigued by what we could create with pitch B. We feel like the feeling of suspense that we want to portray can be achieved by incorporating different aspects like lighting, sound, and props during the filming. We can also use editing to help tell our story, as we can use techniques like nondiegetic sound, split screen, and fade outs. However, one drawback to this pitch is that we would ideally want to film at night, but this isn’t feasible because we don’t have proper lighting equipment. However, we can film in the late evening and obtain a similar effect while still maintaining the quality of our video. Another advantage of this pitch is that it would be filmed in one of our houses and surrounding area, so we will be able to control most aspects of the setting to create the ambience that we want.

We chose pitch B because it is the most feasible option and we believe that we could creatively tell our story using different camera angles, mise en scene, and editing techniques.
