Almost There!
Hi everyone! The film has gone through its last few edits and I’m here to tell you all about it. The first thing I did was add some edits to the intro. At first it was too long because the group had filmed some extra shots on another day and added it into the film. I liked the new scenes, but some establishing shots were too long. So, I played those parts through, and when I wanted to cut the clip short, I would split the footage at that point. This allowed me to delete the extra footage that I didn’t want to include.
With that fixed, I moved on to finding a filter that would match the intro. For the film, we have high intensity, gloomy music playing in the intro to create a humerus contrast with the happiness of the radio playing and actor dancing that comes later. It creates this shock for the audience because from the intro you would think something sinister is going to happen, but then you see this happy setting of a man cooking dinner for his wife. I like that contrast created, but I thought that it needed to be more obvious so that the idea would not be lost on the audience.
To do that, I placed a dark, “Oppenheimer” filter from CapCut on the scenes with the dark music. Then, I lined up the end of the filter with when the actor pushes the button on the radio, so once the button is pushed, the scene goes back to normal lighting and the happy music starts playing.
I liked what I had done with the filter in the beggining scenes, so I wanted to do something similar for the flashback scenes. I thought adding a filter over all those scenes would help the reader understand that whenever they see that filter they are witnessing a flashback. So, I tried different filters, some warm, some cool, and tried to find the perfect one that matched the theme of the film. I finally chose a warmer tone to add, and when I played the entire film back through, I think these changes all helped make the plot of the film clearer by making it easier for the audience to follow along.
The last thing I did was add audio over the extended black screen that I had added last time. I added that extra screen right after the character’s flashback and right before he woke up from his coma. Currently it was just a black screen, and I wanted to add a voiceover continuing to say “sir can you hear me.” So, I had Kyra, who played the nurse in the film, say that line while I recorded it on my phone. I then uploaded that footage to the end of my film, extracted the audio, and then deleted the visual part of that footage. I was then able to move that audio clip to align with the black screen found towards the middle of the film. With those changes done, I think the film is complete! The next time I write to you guys I will have a finished film to show! I’m so excited and can’t wait to see you guys next time.
