The Journey of Filmmaking
Hey guys! I'm back to update you all on the rest of the filming for that first day. I had to finish filming all of the scenes during that filming session, all except for the car scene. That scene will come later. I started off with filming a dutch angle that showcases the confusion of the character. I actually found this to be a bit challenging because whenever I tried to rotate the camera, the shot came out shaky. After a few trials, I came up with a solution. I decided to use the tripod I had brought with me, and since the part that attaches to the camera rotates, I was able to get a clear shot.
Next, I had to film a few medium shots, close ups, and an extreme close up. I had to get some medium shots of the two actors, and of the plant and tv props. Next, I needed to get an extreme close-up of the actor. After a few takes of us laughing, I was able to get the perfect extreme-close up shot. I directed the actor to look confused, and then rub his eyes, all to make it seem like he was in pain.
After I finished those last shots, it was time to move locations. I directed the actor to move over to the bedroom for the home-nursing scene. To set up the scene, I taped the clear tubes to the actor's face and arms so that it looked like he was getting assisted breathing and an IV. After getting some basic shots, I then had to take a tracking shot of the nurse walking into the room. I stood close to the door, and directed the actor to let them know when they should start walking. Then, I would follow their movement to the bed, and make sure to keep my hands extra steady for the shot!
That wraps up the first day of filming! The last thing I had to film was the car scene. However, I proposed to the group that we film that scene another day, because the sun was going down by the time we finished filming everything else. I wanted to film mid day with good lighting, since this next scene was going to be shot outside. That outside scene proved to be quite complicated, so I'll fill you in on that next time! See you then.
