Camera Time

Hey guys! Today I'm here to update you all on the first day of filming. The day started when all of my group mates met up at the designated filming location. I made sure to bring all the props I had from home, and I remind any of my group mates who had a prop to bring theirs as well. I was the person who filmed the entire movie, while the my other teammates acted in it.

I first started with setting up the kitchen for the first scene. I placed the radio and remote on the counter, and arranged the cooking utensils and cutting board. I then set up the camera so that it could capture the actor from the waist up (medium shot). Once I showed the actor where to stand, I started filming the first shot where the actor is seen dancing to music while holding a spatula.

For the next shot, I wanted to get an arial shot of the actor cooking. To do this, I stood up on a chair in front of the table and filmed overhead while the actor chopped vegetables on the cutting board. It was a little risky but it paid off! To get the next arial shot of the set dinner table, I did the same thing, and it came out perfectly! I captured a few more shots of the actor dancing and a few close ups of the radio, and then, it was time to introduce the next character.

For this next shot, I had the actor walk in through the doorway and look shocked when she saw the dinner table. I experimented a bit with this shot, as I couldn't determine whether I preferred a low angle or an eye level angle. So, I ended up doing a few takes with both so that when it was time to start editing, I could just choose whichever one I liked better,

The next few shots were relatively easy. I did a few shots of the two actors, a few close ups to show the actors expressions, and a few close ups of the props that were being used. By the time I was done filming the first 3 scenes, so much time had already passed. I had forgotten how much fun being behind the camera was! I still had a lot of work left to do, but I will fill you all in on that next time!
